The Wedding Ceremony Is Many Peoples' Initial Focus, But The Wedding Rehearsal Supper Can Be Memorable, Too

There are numerous arrangements, expenses and pressures that go along with preparing for a wedding ceremony. If couples aren't mindful they can get so taken in with planning the event and endeavoring to get all the details right that there is little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was planning her wedding day she had three bridal showers to attend, reception plans to get in order and was trying to nail down a place for the rehearsal dinner. The third shower was given at my home. I'm her godmother so I had wanted to have it be special for her. A few days before the shower we talked on the phone. She sounded very pressured. She and her fiance were also having problems finding the best wedding songs for the nuptials. I recommended that she get here the night before the shower and stay all night and we would relax and I would help her make a list of what remained to be done prior to the wedding ceremony. She thought this sounded like a wonderful plan.

I did the vast majority of the preparations for the bridal shower prior to my niece coming so that we could give attention to her needs. She said that the rehearsal dinner was her primary stress because the spot they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to locate a new location. We started off by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding ceremony so we could get one need out of the way thereby giving confidence that the other would be handled as well. As I thought finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the internet, listening to samples, ordering what was selected and that was that. Now to tackle the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal banquet is traditionally handled by the groom's family; in fact some people refer to the rehearsal dinner as the groom's dinner. My niece's fiance is from another state so his family is prepared to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they're not able to take over making the arrangements. My niece had touched base with the restaurant where the wedding reception will be held, but the only available space was the part where the wedding reception would be held. My niece stated that the plan was to decorate the reception area prior to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two local restaurants to see if they could accommodate the rehearsal dinner. Both had other gatherings scheduled. Her fiance's mom and dad are divorced, also both have married again. This meant that there were extra people that would be at the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her anxiety because she was doing her best to figure out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart approved for the wedding, but not knowing the place the rehearsal dinner would be located limited her opportunity to arrange a chart.

I asked my niece if she had called the church to check if the fellowship area would be available. Everybody could just mingle and have a light catered meal. This would be quite a bit less formal and would be much less difficult to plan. The fellowship area was available that date. We called two delis and ordered catering. My niece called her fiance and told him the new plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded wonderful. He would make arrangements to have a buddy of his tend bar and would arrange for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a pleasant relaxed evening. The guests were able to socialize and mingle and the bride and groom did not feel the need to sit in one spot while everybody ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the ambiance was very casual and the out of town guests didn't have to try and find another place in an area that they were not familiar with.
