Cheese Cutting Board - Why Would Someone Desire One?

To lots of people, purchasing a cheese cutting board can sound a bit silly. Most people already own a regular cutting board so why do they require one that is specially for cheese?

This is exactly what I thought for years. I must say that my fiance and I are huge cheese consumers, however we were more than comfortable using a normal cutting board and not spending the extra money to purchase one which is made for cheese (no matter how cute a Swiss cheese cutting board may look!). It simply looked like a waste of money.

This continued on till about six months ago when I saw a cheese cutting board for sale at the local grocery store. It was cute, Swiss cheese holes carved into it, and was very inexpensive. It came with a cheese wire cutter and soft cheese knives.

I must say, that the combination of the new knives and the wire cutter really helped us cut cheese more rapidly and efficiently. We also use the board to serve cheese on and we're always getting questioned about it! My family absolutely adore it.

Overall, I would certainly buy another one of these if faced with the chance. I can't believe that we went so many years without one, believing that our regular board would do it fine.

One thing that you should be sure to look for in one of these is that it is non-porous. Many woods are porous and therefore can collect molds(that adore cheese) and germs. You could purchase wooden boards which have been coated or finished and are therefore non-porous, or you could want to purchase one which simply looks like wood though is made from plastic or silicone.
